City Commission Gets Economic Development Update

The Junction City Commission received an economic development update this week from JUNCTION CITYChamber CEO Tom Weigand. It was presented during Commission budget work session.

Weigand said a proposal was due to go out Thursday ( June 19 ) for a 50-acre project and 900,000 square foot distribution center. “You know, have a shot at that. I think 300 to 400 jobs is what it entails. We’d like to be in the game there. I think we’re seeing a lot of attention. We have someone looking for land in the Chestnut area, we have activity out to the west. We’re pretty optimistic about the year coming up.”

The Chamber CEO also expressed his view that a Capital Campaign should be undertaken. “Get ahold of some land, have something to market for a really nice business, something that’ll really hash some high paying jobs.”

A feasibility study showed approximately $1.1 to $1.2 million dollars could be raised from the private sector for economic development over a five year period. Final action has not been taken to implement that campaign at this point.
