Tuesday night the Junction City Commission received an update on the Municipal Court renovation and expansion project at 701 N Jefferson Street.

The Commission hired Bruce McMillan Architects for Architectural and Engineering Services for the project this past January.
Bruce McMillan provided an update for the commission on the plans for the project. He explained that they will be adding roughly 3,500 square feet increasing the total size of the building to approximately 6,000 square feet.
“The focal point is obviously the Municipal Court Chambers and Commission Chambers. The seating capacity of that will be in upwards of 80 people,” McMillan said.
The building will also include a private commission and court meeting room, Judges chambers, Bailiffs office, and three secure holding cells.
“The Court Clerk offices accommodate three individuals in the front office with safety security in that area as well as the Court Clerks office is adjacent to that.”
There will also be two Public Defenders offices in the building.
The project is expected to stay within the $1.1 million budget that was previously approved by the Commission.
McMillan plans to place the project out to bid this weekend and have a pre-bid meeting scheduled for July 8th. Bids are expected to be received by July 22nd and then presented to the Commission at their scheduled meeting August 5th and pending approval by the Commission construction could start on or around September 1.
“We would expect about an eight month, possibly nine month construction period. We should be in the building about this time next year.”
