Geary County District Court has received reports from county residents about e-mails and telephone calls about failing to appear for court and / or jury service.
District Court Clerk Patty Aska issued the release. It stated that if you receive an e-mail with attachments indicating that you failed to appear for a court hearing or jury duty, do not open the attachments. The District Court does not send out e-mails about failing to appear. The attachment is probably a virus that could infect your computer.
Some people have received telephone calls informing that they failed to appear for jury duty and there’s a warrant for their arrest. “They were told if they wanted to pay $100 with their credit card over the phone, they could avoid getting arrested. No one from the District Court will be asking you for your credit information. If you were in fact called for jury duty, you may receive a call from the District Court the morning of your jury service if you failed to appear. A bench warrant will not be issued for your arrest for failing to appear for jury duty. The District Court also does not call you if you failed to appear for a court hearing.
If you have any doubts about a telephone call or e-mail supposedly from the District Court, call the Court Clerk’s office at 785-762-521.
