Storm Produced Power Outages – Tree Damage

The latest power outage numbers from Westar Energy as of 11:30 a.m. showed that there were 127 outages in Geary County, but 992 in Dickinson County. Around the region, 71 were reported in Clay, 157 in Morris,  and 301 in Riley County.

As of 9:45 a.m. ( Thursday ) Westar Energy reported that there were 768 power outages in Geary County.

The outages followed a thunderstorm with gusty winds that moved through the region.

There were 622 outages reported at 9:45 a.m. in Riley County, nine in Pottawatomie, 29 in Clay, 200 in Dickinson County, and 124 in Morris County.

The staff of the Geary County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau reported a traffic light pole at 14th and Jackson was snapped off, and there was tree damage. They also reported that the traffic light at 8th and Jefferson was out of sync, with the lights flashing. The light pole had also been turned.

A telephone call to the Junction City Police Department about 9:40 a.m. revealed dispatchers were extremely busy taking calls.

Some wind damage has also been reported by the National Weather Service in Dickinson County. Gusts were recorded in the 40-50 mph range four miles south of Chapman. Three-inch diameter limbs were down.   And six miles east-southeast of Abilene there was a report of wind damage, with a wind estimate of up to 70 mph.

The Fire Chief in Wakefield has reported two-inch diameter tree limbs are down.
