Jennifer ( Gruver) Kirkpatrick will be inducted into the Kansas State High School Activities Hall of Fame on Saturday after a stellar career at Scott Community High School ( 1988-92). During her four year career she earned 16 medals at the state track meet, 12 golds and 4 silver.
Kirkpatrick has resided in Junction City since 2005.
She was nominated for the Hall of Fame by both her husband and mother, who kept it a secret from her until the letter came announcing that she would be inducted.
“I found out in November, my husband handed me the letter that said you will be inducted into the 2014 Hall of Fame,” Kirkpatrick said.
She explained that she was shocked at first.
“I still am. My first reaction honestly was that I’m not deserving of that honor, I mean I know so many athletes, fabulous athletes. I struggled with that for awhile, but I was happy. I mean it was an honor, it’s just something I couldn’t even imagine being given.”
Jennifer Kirkpatrick earned 4 gold medals in the 100 meter hurdles, and 4 in the Long Jump. In addition she earned 3 gold medals in the Triple Jump, 1 in the 300 Low Hurdles, along with 3 silver medals in the 300 low hurdles and one silver medal in the 400 Meter Dash.
Kirkpatrick was a 3 sport letterwinner at Scott Community HS in volleyball and basketball. She received all-league status all four years, and was named an All-State player her senior year in basketball. Her honors also included being named a Kansas Governors Scholar.
Kirkpatrick will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the State Track Meet on Saturday in Wichita.
