Members of the Riley County Police Department were in Junction City Wednesday afternoon to formally give thanks to two area police officers.
On May 7th, at approximately 1:04 p.m. the Riley County Police
Department received an emergency call for service regarding a single gunshot victim and a suspect who had fled the scene. Witnesses were able to provide detailed descriptions of both the suspect and the suspects vehicle. Surrounding jurisdictions were then relayed those descriptions.
“At approximately 1:22 p.m. Lieutenant Justin Stopper of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, and Junction City Police Officer Nick Blake were able to locate a vehicle that matched the description,” said Lieutenant Mark French with the RCPD Investigations Division.
Both Stopper and Blake detained the suspect until Riley County Police Officers could respond.
“It is because of these Law Enforcement Officers initiative and dedication to their community, as well as the communities that surround them, a dangerous suspect thought to be armed was taken into custody. Not only was this dangerous suspect taken into custody, he was taken into custody without any further violence.”
Certificates of Appreciation were given to both Stopper and Blake for their actions on that day.
