Here is the local Memorial Day service schedule.
Junction City:
–The Geary County Veterans Alliance will sponsor a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. Monday at the C. L. Hoover Opera House. Colonel ( Ret. ) William Clark will serve as the guest speaker, and music will be provided by the Junction City Community Band.
–The Knights Templar will be conducting a Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday at Heritage Park. The Kansas Chaplain of the National Park will be the guest speaker.
Fort Riley:
— The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 11:40 a.m. Monday at the Post Cemetery on Huebner Rd. Major Gen. Paul Funk II will serve as the guest speaker.
Fort Riley will join military installations across the country in conducting a 21-Gun Salute at noon to honor fallen service members. That will be followed by the National Anthem and the raising of the flag to full staff. All graves in the Post Cemetery will be decorated with U.S. flags.
Northern Dickinson – Southwest Clay Counties
–American Legion Post #88 will hold Memorial Day ceremonies at three cemeteries. They will include Athelstane at 9 a.m., Keystone at 9:45 a.m., and Rose Meron at 10:45 a.m. An Honor Guard from Fort Riley will assist at those cemeteries.
