“The Dr. Seuss quote, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened” was repeated by the Acting Superintendent of Schools in Geary USD 475 Dr. Beth Hudson to the graduates in the class of 2014 at Junction City High School during commencement exercises Sunday evening at Al Simpler Stadium.
Hudson told the graduates she first heard the quote earlier in the week when it was used by a teacher during a District retirement ceremony. Hudson noted it was appropriate to share the quote. “Because it communicates an attitude with which each of us should live, an attitude of appreciation. Don’t cry because it’s over.” Hudson challenged the graduates to learn to view past events in their lives with a smile, “a smile because it happened.”
There were Co-Valedictorians in the Class of 2014…..Austin Magee and Rabel Marte, both of whom had grade point averages over 4.4.
Magee said one message he wanted to give his classmates was just to make sure they worked hard, do their best, and never give up. Marte told the graduates the world is counting on them. “Excellence is not an accident, but instead the result of hard work. Go forward, work hard, and achieve excellence, the type of excellence that will make your dreams a reality.
The names of 347 students due to receive diplomas were listed in the graduation program.
