
For the seventh consecutive month temperatures in Geary County were below normal in April.
Chuck Otte, Geary County Extension Agent, keeps the weather records. He reported that the average daily high in April was 68 degrees, 2.1 degrees above normal. However the average overnight low was 38.7, which was 3.5 degrees below normal.
The highest temperature during April was 89 degrees on the 12th, which broke the record high for that date. The lowest temperature for the month was 25 degrees on the 14th and 15th.
Heavy rains the last weekend in April boosted an otherwise paltry rainfall total over the long term average. Average April precipitation is 2.95 inches. Junction City received 5.33 inches for the month, but Milford Lake only received 3.61 inches. Normal year to date precipitation through April is 7.06 inches. Milford Lake has received 5.73 inches so far this year and Junction City 7.34 inches.
