The Joker driven by Glen Eickleberry of Palco, Kansas covered a 160-foot distance in record time of 2.4 seconds at the Mud Bogg in Junction City on Saturday.

Eickleberry said he ran in the open class. “The car I run is called the Joker, has a blown-alcohol injected 565. ” Eickleberry said the car was built for him by six-time national record holder Chris Blade of Red Oak, Texas. “and then a guy out of Wichita, Big Mike’s Speed Shop, we just got the motor back last ( Friday ) night at 7 0’clock, and worked till two, and got it put in, and here we are today ( Saturday ).
Eickleberry, who is the owner of the Kansas Mud Racing Organization, said he puts a lot of money into these cars. “You know, $20-$30,000 ain’t nothing any more.” He helps coordinate Mud Bogg races across Kansas including Junction City, and also one in Oklahoma.
The local coordinator for the Mud Bogg in Junction City Eric Boland said the 2.4 second time is a track record both in Junction City and at all the other pits in Kansas.
Boland estimated the turnout Saturday afternoon at between 1,700 and 2,000 people. He wants more space for Mud Bogg in the future.
“I still think, need to find a bigger place to handle all the spectators. Somewhere down the line got to do that. ” Boland added they’re running out of spectator and truck room so in the future something needs to be done about it.
Boland estimated there were 80 trucks in the Mud Bogg in Junction City this year. “Today we had 80. Next year I’m looking at probably 150 trucks. I’ve got a little plan going on that I’m thinking about doing… it’s going to draw a lot of trucks.”
