Approximately 720 Geary USD 475 third grade students visited the 4-H Fairgrounds Friday to learn about agriculture.
The event is sponsored by Geary County – KSU Research and Extension.
Ware Elementary School third grader Hunter Sheffield focused on the pigs and cattle. ” I never knew that the pigs never sweat. I just thought any kind of cow was used for meat. I didn’t know a special type of cow was used for meat.”
Maddie Gee of Ware Elementary School learned about livestock as well. “About how the beef cattle can give us food and how the pigs help the environment.”
Extension Agent Ginger Kopfer said topics ranging from livestock to corn, wheat, soybeans, sheep, goats, and the 4-H program are covered. Soil conservation and water conservation were also part of the program.
