The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation Presented $450 Check to Fort Riley Middle School

The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation presented a $450 check to Fort Riley Middle School Wednesday during the schools annual wellness fair.

Jolana Montgomery-Matney, GCHF Executive Director, explained the gchfmoney will be used to supply healthy snacks and drinks for the middle school students to try.

“So they could learn that healthy things actually taste good,” Montgomery-Matney said.

She said that she doesn’t exactly know what the statistics are on childhood obesity but she believes it’s higher than people may think.

“You hear so much about childhood obesity. Middle School children are going through a lot of physical changes in their bodies and I think that with that they need to be learning a healthier way to eat, a healthier way to live, the no smoking, no drugs, things like that.”

She further explained that she believes middle school children are at the perfect age to target when it comes to teaching them about healthier life styles.
