Washington Elementary School Principal Passes Away

The principal of Washington Elementary School in Junction City Lorraine Walker passed away on Friday.

USD 475 Communications Coordinator Hugh Davis issued a press release reporting Walker’s death.

At approximately 12:30 Friday afternoon a 911 call was made stating Walker was in her office and not responsive.  She was taken to Geary Community Hospital. At approximately 1:30 p.m. the District was notified that Walker had died.

At three p.m. the District Administration and Board of Education members met with the Washington Elementary School staff and notified them of of Walker’s death. Letters were sent home with students to share with their parents that a special time of remembrance has has been for planned for Lorraine Walker from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the school cafeteria.

Grief counselors will be available to students, staff, and community members that need assistance.

Walker began her career with USD 475 in August of 1981 at Washington Elementary as a third grade teacher. In 1986 she moved to the Alternative Center and taught there for three years. In 1988 she returned to Washington Elementary as the Principal and remained in that position.

School will be in session Monday. Sierra Jackson, principal of Spring Valley Elementary School, will also assume the leadership role at Washington Elementary along with Washington staff member Jenna Langvardt.
