County Commission Approves Temporary Work for Bridge Destroyed By Fire over Weekend

Some good news for the rural residents who use Liberty Hall Road near the Crider Road intersection west of Junction City.

A county bridge at that location was destroyed by fire Saturday. The initial bridge threeindication was that it could be closed for some time.

Florence Whitebread, Geary County Commissioner, reports that Dennis Cox, Public Works Director, has been given authorization to proceed on temporary work for a replacement bridge.

“He’s located two 40 foot, sixty inch tubes and I think they’ll go ahead and probably put those in. They’ve got to run hydrology on the area and possibly will put another one  in, but at this time if we can put the two in we can open the road up,” Whitebread said.

She further explained that it will be temporary until they can get it approved.

“He’s going to start the process and see where we can get because Liberty Hall’s a highly traveled road and we hate to see it closed to long.”

The detour route is Gfeller Road north to K-18, then west to Crider Road and then back south.
