Teacher Contract Discussions Focus on Salary Schedules

Thursdays Geary USD 475 Teacher Contract negotiations focused on the teacher salary calendar and school starting times.

Teachers are suggesting to change the salary calendar and add a multi-USD 475 Logoyear schedule on contract and add more compression and calibration of the schedule.

“Ultimately it will mean larger raises for our teachers,” said Kathy Rankin, Junction City Education Association President. “This was just an informational meeting. We wanted to get the information out so they had time to process it and develop their questions.”

Dr. Beth Hudson, Associate Superintendent explained that currently the salary schedule is a compressed schedule.

“For us a salary schedule looks like how many years of service you have and the years of extra training you have,” Hudson said. ” So it looks like a vertical approach to increasing your salary, as well as, a horizontal if you continue to gain extra hours and extra learning applies to your contract then to.”

The discussions were held just to give them ideas to think about before they actually begin to determine what teacher salaries might be.
