The second annual Celebrating Past Times open house event sponsored by the Geary County Historical Society will be held Saturday April 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Spring Valley Historical Site on the west side of Junction City.

Activities will range from one-room school class sessions, playing popular children’s games of the period, a view of life in a one-room cabin, and a look at the Wetzel Cabin, where the first Lutheran services in Kansas were held.

Helen Haynes will demonstrate how baskets were made during that period. Don Carrier and Kay Heldstab will demonstrate pioneer farming tools.

Historical Society docents and volunteers will be dressed in period costumes to assist visitors.

Special tours of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and cemetery in the McDowell Creek community are planned from 10 a.m. to noon that same day.

Continuing the Celebrating Past times event Sunday, April 27, a program on historic toys is planned at the Geary County Museum and a tour of the adjacent Starcke House. The museum and Starcke House are located on Adams Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets in Junction City.

Admission to all Celebrating Past Times events is free.
