For the sixth consecutive month the area temperatures in March were below normal.

Geary County Extension Agent Chuck Otte said the below normal temperatures were also accompanied by well below normal precipitation.
The average daily high in March was 55.5, just two-tenths of a degree belwo normal. But the average overnight low was 25.3, which was 6.6 degrees below normal. The coldest temperate was the morning low of -4 on both the second and third of March. the low of -4 on the second broke the old record low for that date of -3 which was set in 1980. The high on the second was eight degrees, and that broke the record low high for that date.
Precipitation events were minimal and far between. Average March precipitation is 2.34 inches. Milford Lake recorded 0.44 inches for the month and Junction City 0.34 inches. There was one minor rainfall event and the rest of the precipitation came from limited snowfall.
