The Junction City Commission has put in a lot of work over the past three years making improvements to the city’s debt situation, now it’s time to look at the city’s infrastructure.
“When we first came on three years ago our big goal was to repair our
revenue streams and be able to make our debt payment, and we did that,” Commissioner Pat Landes said.
Landes also mentioned that they have been able to reinforce the city workforce and take back over the public works department,”we’ve been very successful at that.”
Now the infrastructure including streets, waste water, and water plants need improvement. Their age in some cases range from 30 to 70 years old.
“We’re going to need some help from the Community,” Landes said.”I don’t like to say bad things like that but I think everybody knows that the writing on the wall is that revenue will be needed to do this. It doesn’t just happen and we can’t cut our way out of it to make it happen.”
Currently the city is paying between $14 million and $17 million a year in debt payments and Landes said it’s going to be that way for quite some time.
