The Geary USD 475 Board of Education has agreed to hire Dr. Corbin Witt to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools for the district. The Board vote was 7-0.
Witt will begin work July 1.
Witt will be paid a base contract salary of $142,000.

Board member Tom Brungardt confirmed Witt will be in Junction City Wednesday to sign his contract.
Brungardt stated, “The Board met with five different candidates. He was at the top of the list for his communication skills, for his ability to work with people, for his knowledge of curriculum, for his past experiences. He’s worked as an associate superintendent in two locations, as an interim superintendent in Atchison. He has worked in Atchison and Salina both. He comes with lots of credentials and lots of good recommendations.”
BOE President Dr. Ferrell Miller said he spent seven hours with Witt on the day he toured with District officials. “He’s very knowledgeable education-wise. He’s worked with school improvement in his current job. ” Miller added Witt has been an elementary school principal, a teacher, and an acting superintendent for a year in Atchison. ”
“I think he brings a lot of skills and a lot of knowledge, good people skills.”
Witt is currently the Executive Director of School Improvement for USD 305 in Salina. In that position he serves in the capacity of assistant superintendent with supervisory and administrative responsibilities.
The motion to hire Witt for the USD 475 Superintendent’s post was made after a Board of Education executive session at Seitz Elementary School at Fort Riley Tuesday night.
Witt will succeed Ron Walker, who is scheduled to retire at the end of June.
Witt is scheduled to be introduced at a press conference at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Devin Center in Junction City.
