After earning two wins and shutting out the Big 12’s top offense, redshirt freshman Nate Griep has been named big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the period ending March 23, the conference announced.

In his first career start, Griep quieted Oklahoma, which leads the conference with a .305 team batting average, by throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout against the Sooners in K-State’s win March 23.

k-statesports.com reported that the Omaha, Nebraska native helped lead Kansas State to its first shutout at Oklahoma since April 24, 1971, and the Wildcats’ first shutout on the road against a conference opponent since April 26, 1992 at Nebraska.
