The Geary USD 475 Board of Education plans to interview five candidates for the Superintendent’s position.

The District has announced that the first of those candidates, Dr. Darren Dennis, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Director of Learning Services for Garden City, USD 457, is on a tour of local facilities Tuesday, and will be interviewed Tuesday night at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel.  The Board of Education will meet for dinner with the candidate at 5 p.m. and in executive session for an interview with Dennis from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dennis has been a principal at Ottawa and Burton High Schools, and an assistant principal at Lees Summit High School. He has worked in the classroom as a Social Studies and English teacher.

Dennis has a doctorate in Education Administration, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Kansas.

The Board of Education also plans to interview four other candidates. According to information provided by the District two more external candidates will be interviewed on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, respectively, and two internal candidates will be interviewed on Monday.

The names of the other four candidates have not yet been released, but officials plan to release those names on a daily basis when they are interviewed.

The Board of Education is seeking a successor to Ron Walker, who is retiring, effective June 30.
