James McKenith, 33, Manhattan has entered a no contest plea in Riley County District Court as part of a plea agreement in connection with the death of John Burroughs, 68, Manhattan.

Burroughs, formerly of Junction City, was found dead in his Manhattan home September 8,2013.

Riley County Attorney Barry Wilkerson said McKenith plead to First Degree Felony Murder,  “as opposed to first degree premeditated murder. Both carry a life sentence. There is a slight difference in parole eligibility. On premeditated murder, be eligible in 25 years, on felony murder he could possibly be eligible in 20 years. Really that’s all there was.”

Wilkerson confirmed McKenith was found guilty on the first degree felony murder count following the no contest plea. Sentencing is scheduled on May 5. McKenith is one of three people that faced charges in the case involving Burrough’s death.
