Saturday.

In one fire Saturday approximately 1,000 acres of grassland, brush, and trees burned in the Humboldt Creek Road – Moyer Ranch Road area Saturday afternoon and early Saturday evening.  Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges reported his department sent seven trucks and one command vehicle. The Fort Riley Fire Department provided assistance with three trucks, Grandview Plaza sent one truck.  ” Grandview Plaza brought a pumper truck because a couple of structures possibly being threatened, the way the winds were.  And we had several area farmers and residents with 4-wheelers and water units, and they were a big asset out there.”

There were no injuries or structure damage reported.

Other fires resulted in three acres burning at 2314 Range Road near Milford Friday morning, and 10 acres burned Friday night at 8000 Clarks Creek Road.

On Saturday night there was a large grass and brush fire in the 200 block of Wolf Road, 100 acres burned back at the Humboldt Creek Road – Moyer Ranch Road fire site, and the blaze in the 2000 block of Wolf Road rekindled due to the wind conditions.

Shifting and changing winds were a problem both days.  Berges stated, “It’s tool dry for people to burn right now, especially if they don’t have enough personnel. The winds are going to be changing around directions, speed. They just need to have a lot of personnel, a lot of water, and hopefully they don’t burn because the conditions are just too dry and unfavorable. We’ve got a very high fire danger probably most of this week if we don’t get any more moisture.”
