Sheriff’s Department Looking at Fuel Octane Issue

Geary County Sheriff’s Department Dodge badge formvehicles have been experiencing a fuel octane issue.

Sheriff Tony Wolf said he feels the gasoline the county is purchasing for the Sheriff’s Department to use is not at the 87 octane level even when it’s sold to the county it is being labeled at that level.   The vehicles will function properly on the 87 octane gasoline.

Wolf stated officials have reviewed the documentation on the fuel delivered to County Public Works, and it showed an 87 fuel octane level is being delivered, but the vehicles are still having difficulties. Attempts to use 87 octane gasoline from local service stations in the Sheriff’s Department vehicles have been successful, with the cars running properly. “So the root of this issue is something with the fuel that’s being delivered to the county.”

Wolf said officials will test the fuel in the County’s tanks to find out if it is 87 octane or lower. The possible next step would then be to contact the supplier.

The Sheriff’s Department has eight Dodge vehicles.
