Fake Patty’s Day Off to Good Start In Manhattan

The Aggieville business district in Manhattan was full of people Saturday as one of the largest fake holidays kicked off.

Fake Patty’s Day, the fake holiday that primarily college students enjoy to celebrate, kicked off Saturday and as of 7:00 p.m. was FAKE PATTY'S DAYwell under control in the eyes of the Riley County Police Department.

Matt Droge, Public Information Officer, explained that as of seven o’clock there had only been eight arrests connected to the Fake Patt’ys Day celebration. Last year for the entire event the RCPD made 70 arrests.

“We’re on a good start. We’re on track to have maybe a record breaking year in the opposite direction then we were going,” Droge said. ” I think that’s a testiment to the officer’s out there doing proactive work, the people who are participating are making better decisions, possibly there were better educational opportunities about the laws this year.”

The RCPD brought in extra Officers from Junction City, Hays, Emporia, Lyon County and Pottowatomie County to assist with the event.
