One may not normally think outside of the U.S. Army when you bring up Fort Riley, but, an Air Force Squadron does call the post home as well.
In fact approximately 166 Airmen are assigned to the 10th Air SupportĀ Operations Squadron at Fort Riley.

Lieutenant Colonel Sean R. Monteiro, Squadron Commander, was the guest speaker at Thursday mornings Military Affairs Council Breakfast.
“Not much flying goes on in my squadron if at all, and if it does it’s probably on a private level,” Monteiro said.
“The whole reason we live on an Army base is so that we can shoot, move and communicate, train with the Army, the way the Army does and not slow up their battle formations. Then also contribute with bringing the might of the Air Force down upon our adversaries.”
Working along side Big Red One soldiers on the battlefield, members of the 10th Air Squadron are the one’s who call in air strikes and provide communication for troops on the ground.
