Geary County collected just over $9,500 more in sales tax this past January compared to 2013.

The County collected $177,633 in January 2014 compared to $167,947 in January 2013. The county also saw in overage overall in the 2013 budget as well.

“In 2013 the County budgeted $1.9 million for tax collection and acquired an amount of $2.1 million resulting in an overage of about $209,676,” explained Larry Hicks, Commission Chair.

 

Hicks said that the commission would like to believe that the result of those increases is due to more business’s coming into the area and more people shopping local.
