Blue Jay Swimmers Headed to State

Two Junction City Blue Jay swimming relay teams will compete in the Class 6A State meet competition Friday at the Topeka-Capital Federal Natatorium at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.swim

The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams will be competing. Coach Beth Schlesener said the relays qualified by their times. “The State has times that you qualify for. We were just outside of truly qualifying, but our times were consideration times. So what they do is to fill out the heats is to let other teams that are really close to the time. Our time was close enough to get us in.”

Schlesener noted the team was excited to make it into the State swim meet. “They were very excited, very excited.”

Members of the 200 freestyle relay will include Brett Magee, Jason Carter, Blake Nimmo, and Gavin Carey. The 400 freestyle relay team will include Brett Magee, Austin Magee, Evan Hallum, and Jason Carter.

The meet begins with the preliminary competition at 1:30 p.m. Friday, and continues with the finals on Saturday.
