The Junction City Fire Department got the green light Thursday night from the city commission to purchase a new pumper apparatus from Rosenbauer LLC.
The new apparatus will be the second of three that the fire department plans on purchasing from Rosenbauer to completely replace it’s aging front line fleet.

Last year the department purchased a new aerial apparatus from Rosenbauer to replace the current 24 year old apparatus. They were able to purchase that apparatus using money they received from a fire fighters assistance grant and the departments equipment reserve fund.
The new pumper apparatus will replace one that is 18 years old. Fire Chief Kevin Royse explained that the new truck will come at a discounted price because it will be used as a demo truck by Rosenbauer.
“They will mark it with our markings and then they will show it at whats known as the fire department instructors conference, its a national conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Approximately 25,000 fire service individuals attend.”
Royse said that after the conference it will go back to Rosenbauer and get “detailed out”, and be delivered to Junction City as early as May of this year.
The City recently awarded a bid for the financing of a lease/purchase program with Intrust Bank Inc. for $1.2 million dollars. That lease/purchase program would finance the purchase of the new pumper apparatus along with another one to be purchased later this summer. The city’s match would be taken out of the fire departments equipment reserve fund.
