Junction City has declared a Traffic Snow Emergency in effect from midnight Monday until further notice.
All vehicles parked on emergency snow routes, which are signed/posted,
must be removed within two hours after notice of this traffic snow emergency. Any vehicle parked on an emergency snow route after such period of time may be removed or caused to be removed by a City, to a place of safety, and the vehicle may not be recovered until the towing and storage charge are paid by the person claiming the vehicle.
Greg McCaffery, Junction City Municipal Services Director, explained that the city has three priority streets within the city.
“We’ve got priority one streets which are major arterial. Examples of those are Washington, Jackson and Eisenhower. We’ve got priority two streets, those are major collector thoroughfares, like Grant Avenue, McFarland, Chestnut and some of the school routes,” McCaffery said.
Priority three streets include residential streets.
The city has classified the impeding storm as a category 4 winter storm which is classified as a major snow storm or snow emergency amounting to 4 inches or more of snow.
In a category 4 city crews will concentrate on priority routes one and two streets which are plowed and treated with deicing materials (salt or salt/sand mix). Priority 3 streets will be attended to after Priority 1 and 2 streets are passable.
