Due to the impeding weather Geary USD 475 schools will not be in session Tuesday.

Ron Walker, Superintendent, explained that the district decided to make the call early because of the number of forecasts that are predicting heavy snow.

“They’re all saying pretty much the same thing, is that the accuracy of this particular forecast can be enhanced because it’s all snow. It’s not mixed with ice or rain or anything else, typically those are the forecast that are more difficult to have some kind of accuracy on,” Walker said.

The National Weather Service out of Topeka has issued a Winter Storm Warning for North Central Kansas in effect from 12 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Widespread snow accumulations are expected to range from 5 to 9 inches with locally higher amounts. Heavier accumulations are likely to occur south and east of a line from Council Grove to Seneca.
