Shelly Hoyle Kite will retire from her post as principal of Westwood Elementary School in Junction City following the current school year.

The retirement, which will be effective July 1,  was included in the monthly personnel report approved by the USD 475 Board of Education.

Kite said she enjoyed her work for in the school district for nearly 40 years. “What I hope to do is be more involved in the community.  I really have a passion and a commitment to Junction City and Geary County.”

Kite has served as the principal at Westwood Elementary School for 16 years.

She began her career as a second grade teacher at Washington Elementary School.  Later she worked with the gifted program in USD 475 at both the elementary and middle school levels, before moving into administration in both special education and finally as an elementary school  principal.
