Local Chamber of Commerce Sets Big Goals for Next Six Years

The Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce has set some pretty big goals for the next six years.

Tom Weigand, Chamber CEO, said that the chambers major focus over thechamber next six years will be on marketing Junction City and Geary County to industries coming to the area due to the National Bio and Agro Defense facility being built in Manhattan.

“We’re going to do everything we can to set the foundation that people do recognize that we are a location for NBAF related companies and employment and all that NBAF can bring to our community in that industry,” Weigand said.

Another major focus for the Chamber will be bringing in companies that are apart of the distribution or logistics field. “Our location is a natural, to me, for east west, north south traffic and distribution.”

Weigand said that expanding the communities foundation will be important for the growth of Junction City.

“The foundation of Junction City has been and will maybe always be, hopefully, Fort Riley,” Weigand said. “But we’ve got to come up with something that expands that foundation and creates the need, or the ability, for those soldiers coming out of Fort Riley to find good jobs here.”

Other goals listed over the next six years includes bringing several new things to the west side of Junction City, including a new mega grocery store, a new 8-plex cinema and two national franchise restaurants or a Gander Mountain/Cabela’s or Bass Pro development.
