A resolution of support for a casino project in Junction City is expected to be back on the city commissions agenda near the first of the year.

Gerald Smith, City Manager, explained that they have decided to move forward with the resolution without talking to Fort Riley officials.

“It was decided that there was really no need to meet with Fort Riley, they were aware of the city’s and the stakeholders interests with regards to moving forward with a casino,” Smith said. ” The City Commission will likely at the first of the year reschedule it’s resolution to enact it’s support for such an initiative as well.”

Smith had asked the commission to table the resolution during the November 19th meeting. Smith mentioned that his reason for tabling the resolution was because he felt they needed to have a conversation with officials at Fort Riley on the issue first in order to get their feedback.

State Representative Allan Rothlisberg plans to introduce legislation that would have Geary County designated as the site for a future state-owned casino. He expects to obtain a hearing on that bill before a Kansas House committee in February.
