Road crews operated snowplows and motor graders overnight Saturday and Sunday during and following the winter storm that dropped an estimated eight and a half inches of snow on Geary County. 

Curtis Van Nahmen, Geary County Public Works, felt the eight to nine inch snowfall range was accurate for much of the county, but he noted there might have been only four to five inches in the southeast part of the county.

“We ran around the clock. At night we had a four-man crew on our plow trucks, and then this ( Sunday ) morning  at six o’clock we put all eight  motor graders on eight sections of our gravel roads and had six plow trucks running.”

Twenty-three county public works personnel were on-duty.  City and KDOT crews also work during major storms.

Garry Berges, Geary County Emergency Management Director, reported there were multiple vehicle slideoffs from a location about three miles west to the south side of  Junction City on Saturday afternoon.
