City Commission Opts for Renovation of 701 North Jefferson Facility

The Junction City Commission has voted 4-1 in favor of renovating a city-owned building at 701 North Jefferson into a permanent home for the Municipal Court.

Court facilities are already located there on a temporary basis after after officials were forced to move out of their 225 W. 7th building due to mold and water problems.

Commissioner Mike Ryan voted no, citing his preference to see plans and information on the possible renovation of the building at 225 W. 7th.

The cost estimate on the project getting the Commission okay is estimated at $1.1 million dollars. The next step will be to enter a design phase for the project, which would include improvements ranging from an addition on the north side of the building for Municipal Court and public meetings to new restrooms.

Assistant City Manager Cheryl Beatty confirmed the money is available in the capital improvement fund
