City Commission Tables Resolution in Support of Casino

The consideration for a resolution in support of a casino in Junction City was tabled during Tuesday nights Junction City City commission meeting.

Gerald Smith, City Manager, asked that the resolution be tabled until the city has a chance to talk to Major General Paul Funk, Fort Riley’s Commanding General.

“We haven’t had an opportunity to sit down and brief him on it and get his feedback. I felt it appropriate that we hold off on adopting the resolution until we had that conversation,” Smith said.

Smith added that they do plan to bring the resolution forward again during the next Commission meeting in December.

The Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors approved a motion to endorse a casino resolution earlier in the day Tuesday.

State Representative Allan Rothlisberg has introduced legislation that would have Geary County designated as the site for a future state-owned casino. He expects to obtain a hearing on that bill before a Kansas House committee in February.
