Flint Hills Regional Council Took A Stand on Proposed Regional Visitors Center

The Flint Hills Regional Council met Friday in Westmoreland and discussed multiple topics, one of them being a proposed regional visitors center located near the intersection of K-177 and I-70.

According to Ben Bennett, FHRC Chairman, the council discussed the center infhrc depth. Eventually it came down to a vote of whether the council wanted FHRC staff members to look into the feasibility of the visitors center.

“That vote was not to have staff pursue a private public partnership to see about the feasibility of that study,” Bennett said.

Geary County and Junction City officials have been opposed to the proposed location, fearing it would send visitors into Manhattan and not farther west to Junction City.

Bennett said that for now the FHRC doesn’t have any plans to pursue anything about a regional visitors center unless,”someone brings a new package to the table.”
