A Continuance for a Public Hearing on Proposed Reopening of Rock Quarry Granted by MPC

The Metropolitan Planning Commission once again continued the public hearing on a conditional use permit for the proposed re-opening and operation of a rock quarry west of Junction City.

Jim Didas, once again requested the continuation because he is still waiting on engineering municipal buildingreports among other items. Board member John Moyer asked Didas why it was taking so long in which he replied, “We didn’t get a formal request for additional documents until a month ago and we do other things for a living. It takes time for the engineering, the meetings, the requests, the travel study and other things that were requested.”

Didas did tell the board that he plans to have everything completed and submitted for review by the end of this month.

The board voted and approved to allow the continuance to the November 14th meeting on the condition that at that meeting it will be either presented fully or a decision will be made on the facts that are presented.

The matter has drawn opposition from residents who live near and around the quarry site that Didas is requesting to reopen.

This is the third continuance for the public hearing. The board first continued it during their August 8th meeting. The MPC meeting room once again drew a large crowd, standing room only that spilled out into the hallway, and once again after the continuance was granted the majority of the crowd departed.
