Three Local Families Will Be Recognized for Contributions to the Arts

Three local families will be recognized October 20th for the contributions to the arts in Junction City and Geary County.

The Junction City Opera House Foundation will be recognizing E.J. and Eunice Rolfs, Betty waters and Jim Waters along with David and Sylvia Walker. The recognition ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. October 20th, prior to the performance of Folk Music standouts, Connie Dover and Kelly Werts at the C.L. Hoover Opera House.

According to a release from Richard Pinaire, Member of the Foundations Board of Directors, The Rolfs donated the building adjacent to the opera house, which was a donation to the community and was an essential part of the utilization of the former Colonial Theater, now known as the C.L. Hoover Opera House. ” The Rolfs Building now houses the dressing rooms, a catering kitchen, offices and restrooms, all of which are essential to the functioning of the C.L. Hoover Opera House,” Pinaire said.

The Walker’s are being recognized for their donations, among other things, of the statue in the round-a-bout adjacent to I-70 on East Chestnut Street, as well as the Walker Reception Hall at the Opera House.

Betty Waters and Jim Waters, of Waters Hardware will be recognized for their significant donation of the bronze statute and plantings at the round-a-bout adjacent to I-70 on South Washington Street.

The Foundation is inviting the public to attend the recognition ceremony as well as the reception which will be held immediately following the 3:00 p.m. performance.
