Multiple agencies across the nation would be impacted by the possible Government shutdown including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

R.J. Harms, Projects Manager for The Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake, said that areas of Milford Lake operated by the the Corps of Engineers would essentially shut down.

“Basically the Corps of Engineers areas are going to be required to be closed down. That is were closing camp grounds, closing our East Rolling Hills day use area. Any areas at the lake out here that the Corp of Engineers actually manages would be, through a phase, shut down basically starting Tuesday.”

Corps of Engineers operated areas at Milford Lake affected by these closures include: the Milford Lake Information Center, West Rolling Hills campground, East Rolling Hills day use area, the Gathering Pond outlet area, Timber Creek and School Creek Campground and ORV area.

He did explain that the other areas located around the lake would remain open and unaffected.

Nine out of the eleven employees at the Milford Lake Corps of Engineers would be furloughed as well according to Harms.”We would have a couple of employees that would remain on staff to basically tend to the dam. We have daily inspections that are required in operating the dam, if we have to make in water releases, but that really would be the limit of it.”

If the shut down does occur, Harms said that he should know what actions will be required Tuesday morning.
