Friday Night Fire Sends One Man to Hospital

Around 9:20 p.m. Friday night the Junction City Fire Department responded to a fire in the 500 Block of Sheridan Drive.

Upon arrival crews were able to see smoke and flames through one of the windows of the single family residence. Neighbors of the residence reported that they had attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher, the neighbors were the ones who called it in according to Kevin Royse, Fire Chief.

Crews determined that the fire was contained to one room,” However during their primary search they did find an unconscious adult male victim,” Royse said.

The victim, who’s name is not being released at this time, did not have a pulse when found by the firefighters. ” Crews immediately transported the victim to Geary Community Hospital where they did regain the pulse of the victim.” He was later flown to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Ks.

The fire damage is approximately $50,000, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Thirteen firefighters responded to the scene and were only on scene for roughly one hour.
