Historic Downtown Buildings Could Receive Tax Credits

Some historic buildings in downtown Junction City could receive tax credits to renovate.

During the environmental study for the renovation of the building at 617 N . Washington, Susan KS_KHSLogo3Jagerson, Economic Development Specialist, said that they discovered that the building was a historical building and contacted the states historical preservation office,” Which gave us some really good information about tax credits that are available to some of the historic buildings downtown.”

Jagerson said that the historical preservation office is willing to work with local owners of historic buildings,” Working with them to obtain tax credits to be able to do some renovations on their buildings.”

She said that for the most part the business’ downtown make up the historical district. Those business’ are eligible for tax credits. “They’re all contributing business’ to that designation for the historical district, so all of those buildings depending on what they might want to do to them and whether its owner applied or tenant applied, could obtain tax credits for doing renovations to their building.”
