Geary USD 475 Schools Participating in Freedom Walks

Seventeen schools in Geary USD 475 will be holding Freedom Walks Wednesday.

The Freedom Walk is an event to reflect on the lives lost on September 11, usd 4752001, schools throughout the district have been participating in the walks since 2002, including Washington Elementary.

Washington Elementary will start at 9 a.m. according to Lorraine Walker, School Principal. “We are all going to meet out in front of the school building and walk around the block to let our neighbors and our community know, that we are indeed recognizing what our fellow countryman have done and are doing for us.”

Elementary school students were not yet born when the terrorist attacks occurred and don’t necessarily know what exactly happened on that date according to Walker,” But they do know what happened in their country as far as their family members that are serving at Fort Riley, or friends of theirs who have family members serving at Fort Riley.
