Senator Moran Names 2013 Service Academy Selection Board

Senator Jerry Moran announced the members of his 2013 Kansas service academy selection board Wednesday.

The 20 member board will review applications and interview candidates who are applying for admission to U.S. Service Academies. These include The U.S. Military Academy, The U.S. Naval Academy, The U.S. Air Force Academy and The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Appointed members from the area include two from Manhattan. Katrina Lewison, U.S. Military Academy Graduate and Purple Heart recipient. Along with, Janet Nichols, Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Military Community Liaison.

Also appointed from the area was Dr. Beth Funk, of Fort Riley. Funk is a community volunteer as well as wife of Fort Riley Commanding General, Major General Paul Funk.

Senator Moran accepts applications for nominations each year. This years deadline is this Friday, Sept. 6th. Candidates will then be required to interview with the selection board. The board will then give recommendations to Moran for his decision. If nominated, applicants must meet the individual admission requirements for each academy. The Academies will then make the final decision on who will receive an appointment of admission in early 2014.
