U.S. Senator Jerry Moran said Monday he will not support authorizing military action in Syria at this time.

He made that statement in the wake of the President’s decision that he will seek congressional authorization to use military action in Syria. “I’m certainly pleased the President is asking Congress. I think it’s something we’ve learned over the years.   I generally believe if we’re going to engage militarily it ought to require a declaration of war by Congress, which means that any kind of military action that’s not imminent threat to our country, that is not a defensive action to protect American lives ought to come to Congress and have a full debate of the American people.”

Moran added despite his pleasure that the President is asking for Congressional input he is not convinced military action is needed at this time. “I am not convinced that military action is necessary or appropriate. We don’t know who the enemy is. We certainly don’t know who our friends are, and maybe they are all our enemies.”

Moran spoke in Chapman Monday. He was there to attend the annual Labor Day parade in that community.
