Geary County Sheriff Daniel Jackson wants to put a new substation near the entrance to Milford State Park. There is a new dive team and marine unit.

Jackson spoke during a town hall meeting this week. “We’re out of space in the warehouse right now. The dive team and the marine unit, we have two boats, a jet ski, a trailer full of dive equipment, vehicles. This stuff all needs to be kept some place and we need to have a training room and we need to have the associated stuff that goes with the dive team. And we need to be able to store it.”

Jackson said authorities need to be close to the lake with that equipment so that they can respond to emergencies.

Trying to figure out how the property was deeded to the county is the next step in the process.

The equipment and improvements that have occurred has all been financed by asset forfeiture money, and has not been paid for by tax dollars.
