New Geary County rural volunteer firefighters will undergo training the next three Saturdays.
Assistant Rural Fire Chief Curt Janke aid there are 13 who are set to receive training. “Out of that 13 only three or four of them have any actual experience so for the next three Saturdays we’re going to run a mini-fire academy.”
The Rural Fire Department had to find additional volunteer firefighters after the county and sheriff’s department decided not to allow deputies to fight fires. The deputies were not certified in that job. They can still respond to fire situations to help make rescues.
