UPDATE:

Old Highway 40 has reopened. It is now open from Industrial Road one to one and a half miles west of Spring Valley Road.

The gas leak has been contained, but Kansas Gas Service crews were still working at the scene late Tuesday evening. The Fire Department confirmed that work was still being done on the road and areas around where the gas leak occurred, and traffic was still blocked off at that location.

Junction City Fire Chief Terry Johnson said late Tuesday afternoon that the Intersection of Spring Valley Road and Old Highway 40 in the Industrial Park of Junction City is now blocked as Kansas Gas works to repair a gas leak to a large gas line at the intersection.

All traffic is asked to avoid the intersection as crews work to mitigate the incident.

Repairs may go through the evening as Kansas Gas completes the  work.
