The Washburn Rural Junior Blues defeated the Junction City Blue Jays 6-0 in varsity soccer at Al Simpler Stadium.
Blue Jay coach Allan McFarland noted that Washburn Rural is always a tough team. “We got them at home this year to start off the season, and I know some guys were concerned.” McFarland said some people don’t understand the history between the Blue Jays and Junior Blues. “That’s a good finish for us. In previous years a lot of times it’s 10-0 with a mercy rule. But we played the full 80 and that’s what I really wanted to do tonight.”
Washburn Rural won the JV contest 9-0.
Junction City teams play at Highland Park on Tuesday.
